Jim Bumgardner Whitney Music Box + Mandala

Jim Bumgardner's Whitney Music Box is a super cool collection of flash musical interpretations of John Whitney's motion graphics ideas published in 1981. Check out the goodness on coverpop here. He used actionscript, syd, ChucK, perl, nyquist, p5, midi and swf. Read more on Sequence 15.

There are 21 different variations so far. It's hard to pick a favorite. Variation 12 [prime numbers only] is pretty nuts. Put headphones on for var. 16. Turn the hand crank on var. 17. Var. 18 [stereo drone] includes a Halloween surprise. They're all awesome!

Bumgardner's Mandala of the Day is also sweet. Fullscreen it and get ready to trip balls.

  1. I once got to the Whitney Music Box using Stumble Upon and spent hours staring at my computer transfixed. I didn't know about that mandala thing though. Whoa!

  2. Try leaving Whitney open for ten minutes, and see how long it takes before you lose your mind.
