Last night I fulfilled a childhood dream: I sat in KITT. Too bad I couldn't drive it.
The Knight Rider KITT car was one of over 100 Gumball 3000 cars on display last night on Hollywood Blvd. in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. KITT broke down coming off the freeway and had to be pushed for blocks by over 20 people, including men dressed as King Kong and Iron Man.
This is the KITT car that David Hasselhoff bought and shipped to Austria when Knight Rider was cancelled back in the day. The car just underwent $40,000 worth of restoration and upgrades after being in storage for years. KITT now sports a new DVD navigation system [not this one].
KITT's taken a beating so far in the Gumball rally. When it came off the truck in San Francisco, the right mirror was knocked off. Then on one of the first drives, the power steering locked up and KITT dangerously veered into two lanes of traffic before reaching the shoulder. KITT's also been pulled over by the police twice this week.
